F. Rice was born January 9th, 1840, in Anderson District, South Carolina. He removed to Smith county in 1860, and made a crop, and when the war broke out enlisted in September, 1861, in the 7th Texas regiment, serving in the army during the war. He returned to Smith county in 1866, and on December 25th, of the same year, he was married to Miss Sallie Wood, a charming daughter of Judge Matthew Wood, a prominent citizen of this county. He now lives in the same house he was married in, having born to him and Mrs. Wood eight children-Augusta, Q. T., T. W., W. W., Dean, Clem, Floyd, Clifton-six boys and two girls. Augusta married D. Rice is a steady, honest and successful farmer who stands high in the estimation of all who know him, and enjoys life with a good home, and a pleasant intelligent family.
