Johnson, Publisher, Tyler, Texas Chapter LXIX, Pages 290-293 DR. JAMES MCBRIDE AND FAMILY, CHAPTER LXIX Dr. James McBride came to tyler in 1849, in company with Dr. John H. Warren. Dr. McBride's father was Ezekiel McBride, who married Miss Rebecca Jones. The family removed from South Carolina and settled in Benton county, Tenn. They had a family of nine children Dr. James McBride married Mrs. Nannie Messenger, formerly Miss Nannie Ramey, a beautiful and accomplished woman who posseessed many rare charms of character. He married at Henderson, Texas, in 1857, and lived there until 1871, when he moved back to Tyler. Mrs. McBride died several years ago. They had six children - Mollie, Georgia, William, Nannie, James and Jennie. Dr. James McBride is a dentist by profession and ranks among the best in the state. He is a man of good information and possesses social qualities that makes him a good companion, hence he is very popular. He has one of the most accomplished families in this city. Miss Mollie McBride died in this city in March, 1883. She was an accomplished and lovely young lady. Miss Georgia married J. M. Sharp of this city and they have two children - Jeff and Annie. J. M. Sharp is a fine business man, and at one time was mayor of this city, and made a good one. He served as alderman for several terms. He is full of energy, and pushes his business with energy and success. William H. (Will) McBride is an insurance man and is doing a very large and satisfactory business, resulting in financial success to him and satisfactory to those who have done business with him. Will is very popular, with a fine business way of getting along with the people. He established his insurance office in this city a number of years ago and his business has gradually grown until now it is one of the largest in the city. Will is an accomplished musician, possessing rare talent as a composer of music. He is thorough and does an up-to-date business, standing at the front. He has many friends who are pleased to see his business a good one. He is single. Miss Nannie lives with the family in this city, being attractive and well educated. She is a social favorite. James McBride is a young man of business and very popular with all who know him. He is with his brother, Will, in the insurance office and is competent as a business man. He and his brother are moral and intelligent and come up to the standard of first-class young men. Miss Jennie is a social favorite and quite an accomplished musician; well educated and possesses that rare talent that makes a young woman lovely and attractive. Dr. McBride has resided in Tyler - with the exception of a few years - about fifty years. He is an old-timer and has seen Tyler grow from a small village to a prosperous little city. His intelligence, his conversational powers, his manner of address possesses a certain charm that the writer remembers with a pleasant affection. He has been a Mason for many years and the old-timer remembers him kindly. Possessing fine mechanical genius and well up in his profession, hence his success has been professionally a good one. As a violinist he is one of the finest in the state, and the sweet, artistic strains he brings from the violin falls upon the cultured ear with raptures of pleasure. He is the worthy sire of the well educated children who stand so well in Tyler for intelligence and business.
