JULIUS PABST AND FAMILY "Some Biographies of Old Settlers." Historical, Personal and Reminiscent. Volume I By Sid S. Johnson, 1900: Sid S. Johnson, Publisher, Tyler, Texas Chapter LXII - Pages 262 - 265 The subject of this sketch was a native of Muelkansan, Germany; was born in the year 1818, and died in Tyler, Texas, on the 6th day of May, 1887. Mr. Pabst imigrated to America in 1844, landing at Castle Garden, New York, where he lived five years. In 1849, he partook of the gold excitement and went to California, remaining there until 1852, when he removed to Texas and settled in Tyler, where he lived a good citizen up to his death. On his arrival in Tyler, he secured a home and a suitable place for his business-that of a tanner, and opened up a tan yard and made his business a very prosperous one. By foresight and industry he accumulated quite a fortune in real property, and as Tyler grew it made him money, and as a good business man he built business houses and improved other property, that secured a rich revenue for him in his declining years. Full of vim and energy, he greatly assisted Tyler in advancing rapidly to the front as the leading city in East Texas. He prospered in his business and invested his surplus money in real estate, that added greatly to the development of his town and county. He threw off the citizenship of the "Father Land," and by choice became an American citizen, making a good one by an examplary and model life, showing by his daily walk the uprightness of life and earnest effort to be a good citizen and upright man. He married Miss Marie Johana Frohne, a woman of Christian virtue that adorns the life of a good wife, that makes home a happy one, looking cheerfully after the household duties that lends a charm to home and its lovely environments. Mrs. Pabst has survived her honored husband and resides in a handsome residence on Fannie avenue. Mr. Julius Pabst joined the Masonic order, and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows-living up to the grand teachings of the "brotherhood of man, under the Fatherhood of God," during his long and useful life while a citizen of Tyler. A model member after taking the obligatins that bind together the brotherhood of these benevolent orders. Mr. and Mrs. Pabst raised six children-Lena, Fred C., Oscar, Albert, Julia and Bertha. Miss Lena married Rudolph Bergfield, who is one of Tyler's leading and progressive businessmen and a large real estate owner. They have two children-Julius, who is now a student at Radford, Va., and Rudolph Lewis, the latter, a school boy here at home. Fred C. Pabst married Miss Cora Labarthe, of Galveston, Texas, and they have two children-Marie and Fred, Jr. Fred is a leading business man in the Island City and a member of the firm of Pabst & Lehnbeuter, wholesale fruit and produce dealers. Oscar Pabst is a leading physician of Galveston and enjoys being popular as a man and citizen. Oscar is still a young man, and has not entered the matrimonial state, hence he is a single man. Albert is single and resides in Galveston, a young man of fine business qualifications, being a splendid salesman in the firm of Pabst & Lehnbeuter. Julia married Gus A. Willet and they reside in this city and are classed among the best people. Mr Willett is a good business man, respected for his good qualifications and excellent citizenship. He is in the cotton business with Abe Harris. They have one daughter- Marie Elizabeth. Miss Bertha resides in Tyler with her mother and moves in the best circles of society, and is greatly loved for her many amiable and sweet acquirements. She is a young lady of much intelligence and has a host of good friends and admirers. Julius Pabst set a good example in life, and I find that his children have inherited the same qualities that made the life of their honored father a success, hence all of his children are battling along in the busy walks of life, paving a secured success, when the end comes.
