DAVID THOMPSON AND FAMILY "Some Biographies of Old Settlers." Historical, Personal and Reminiscent. Volume I By Sid S. Johnson, 1900: Sid S. Johnson, Publisher, Tyler, Texas Chapter LXX. - Pages 294-295 William David Thompson was born in the State of Georgia, 11th day of February, 1839. In 1858, he moved to Smith county and settled in the Starrville community. Capt. Thompson married Miss Leah E. Walters, who was a native of Nacogdoches county. They had born to them eight children--two dying in infancy. Wm. M. Thompson married Miss Nannie Mitchell; they reside in Grand Saline, Texas. Moses W. Thompson died at the age of nineteen; he was a proming [sic] young man. Bob Thompson married Miss Ora Bratcher; resides in Tyler; they have three children. Miss Mary E. Thompson married F. G. Reese; they reside at Comanche, Texas. Mr. Reese is a prominent business man of that little city. Miss Elizabeth Thompson is single, and is one of the accomplished teachers in the public schools at Canton, Texas. Capt. Wm. D. Thompson moved to Van Zandt county, in 1878, and resides at Canton, Texas. He has filled the offices of Sheriff and county clerk of that county, and at this writing, he is the Democratic nominee for the office of county treasurer. He was a Confederate captain, commanding company G, 11th Texas Infantry, a Smith county company. He was loyal to his colors and his Southern manhood. He is a popular and prominent citizen of East Texas. The old-timer kindly remembers the gallant Capt. Bill Thompson. Bob Thompson, Esq., is the only member of this family residing in this county. He is a lawyer of ten years practice and has a good standing at the Tyler bar. He is an educated young man, and a fluent speaker on the Bob Toombs style of oratory; a man of fine physique and commanding appearance. His name is neither R. nor Robert, but straight Bob Thompson. He is studious, moral and attentive to business. He has an interesting family; his wife is a most excellent woman. Bob has ability, a rustler in his profession, suited to receive and return the shafts of force, with and repartee in a rough and tumble legal battle. The Thompsons are good people, good citizens and representatives of the old Southern stock.
