Kidd was born in McNary county, Tennessee; removed with his father to Texas in 1849, and to Smith County in 1850. His father was settled seven miles east of Tyler, where young Kidd remianed until 1859 when he settled in Tyler. He was a mechanic and soon became a prominent contractor and builder, erecting many houses, that stand today in Tyler as an evidence of skill and industry. He was a number one Confederate soldier serving four years, and scored a good record. In Octoer, 1869, he married Mary Pate, one of the pretty daughters of W.H. Pate, and several years ago he removed to Amarillo, where he and his family reside. He is justice of the peace at Amarillo, and of course, makes a good one. Mr. and Mrs. Kidd have six children--Adella, Thomas, Charles, John, Julie, and Willie. Thomas married Minnie Britain, and they have three children--Annie May, Clyde and Noel. Mr. Kidd stands well at Amarillo, and he is held in high esteem as an honorable and intelligent man in Smith county.
