Historical, Personal and Reminiscent. Volume I By Sid S. Johnson, 1900: Sid S. Johnson, Publisher, Tyler, Texas Chapter XL - Pages 192-193 Wm. S. Walker died in Tyler a few years after the war. He was an early settler, coming here in the forties. He was with Tyler in her early struggles and played a conspicuous part as a good citizen, honest man, who helped the interests of Tyler and Smith county. He was one of these intelligent, considerate men who made an impress on the times in which he lived. It was just such men as Uncle Billie Walker that makes a country and an intelligent people and a good citizenship. His wife, a grand old Christian woman, is kindly remembered by the early settler. Grandma Walker was one of these old ladies that lent a charm of pleasure by her presence. There was a charm of heavenly sweetmess about her face and manner. These old people were devout members of the Baptist church and worshipped the God of their fathers with sincere piety. They sleep in Tyler Cemetary, and their many good deeds have been left behind them as a heritage to their descendants and a blesssng to those who remember and heed them. Wm. S. Walker was county treasurer at an early day in Smith county. As an official he was honest and correct. Other positions of honor and trust he filled with that same fidelity that marked the course of his useful life. He raised a large family of children who do and have occupied high positions in social and business life. He was the honored father of Mrs. Stephen Reaves, M. D. Walker, W.D. Walker and B.L. Walker. M.D. and B.L. Walker are the only names mentioned that are living. W.D. Walker lives with his son, E.L. Walker, a prominent lawyer of Terrell, Texas. B.L. Walker is a prominent farmer of Smith county. The Walkers are noted for their intelligence, honesty and good citizenship.
