Johnson, pg. 149 William W. Adams, a prominent planter residing six miles west of the city of Tyler, was born 31st of March, 1836, in the state of Georgia; removed to Texas and settled in Smith county in 1852. Entered the Confederate army early 1861 in Co. "C" Clark's Texas regiment, and was placed in Randell's brigade, Walker's division, Trans-Mississippi Army, and served continuously until the close of the war in 1865. He praticipated in the battles and campaigns of the division, proving himself to be a gallant Confederate soldier. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Knight and reared an interesting family, whose members are now high in business and social life. He has acquired a competency by his frugal business methods, and has given his children the education necessary to battle with the affairs of life. He has devoted himself to the work of a farmer, and is one of the leading planters of his community. And old Sothern citizen loved for the good he has done.
