Johnson LAWRENCE AMSTEATT Lawrence Amsteatt, a veteran of the 20th Texas Infantry, committed suicide by cutting his throat at the Confederate home, at Austin, Texas, Aug. 23, 1907. This was indeed a sad end to the gallant old man who shared the struggles and hardships of the campaigns of his regiment. The old Confederates are answering the final roll call at a rate so rapid, that soon the last one who served in the war between the states will have passed off the stage of this life, and enter the realms of the unseen world. What condition of mind led to this is only known to the God who gave life to Comrade Amsteatt. He was sent to the Confederate home from Galveston.
