Johnson JAMES L. S. BAKER. James L. S. Baker was born in Georgia 1830 and removed to Texas in 1847. Enlisted in Martin V. Smith's company at Starville, Texas, and served with the Trans-Mississippi Army until the surrender in 1865. He was placed in the old Regiment of Gen. Randall and was with that brave commander when killed. He was at Mansfield and Pleasant Hill and participated in the campaign and battles of his com­mand. He was married three times; first marriage was with Miss Ann McDougal in 1851; the second, Mrs. Stinson; third, Miss Julia Mullins, who survives him. He was a prominent farmer, a leading citizen and a christian gentleman. He has been dead several years.
