Johnson M. T. BROWN M. T. Brown was born in the state of North Carolina August 12, 1822, and removed to Texas in 1854. He died April 3, 1887, in Smith county. Enlisted in Co. H, 35th Texas Cavalry, serving two years in the Trans Mississippi army until the close of the war in 1865. He was orderly sergeant of his company, and was in all the campaigns of his regiment during the war. A brave soldier, a splendid man and true to the land of his nativity; a successful farmer and a leading resident of the county. He was married April 3, 1867, to Miss P. J. Matthews, who survives him. He leaves several children, who are prominent people in Texas.
