Johnson THOS. J. CASWELL Thomas J. Caswell, born in the State of Georgia, Nov., 3, 1834. Removed to Texas in 1854 and settled in Smith county. Entered the Confederate service in 1862, joining company I, 22nd Texas infantry, commanded by Col. Richard B. Hubbard, and remained with this command to the surrender, participating with it in the campaigns of the stirring times in the eventful 60's. August 10, 1868, he was happily married to Miss Permelia Ansley, who died some years ago. His second marriage was with Miss Laura Smoot. His parents, Matthew and Elizabeth Caswell, were prominent people of Georgia. He has always been a prominent farmer, a leading citizen, always loyal to the South. He lives on a farm four miles from Tyler, honored, respected and loved. Post office, Tyler, Texas.
