Johnson, p 87 Joseph Monroe McDougal was born in Lauderdale county, Ala., 8th of Nov. 1845. Removed with his father's family, Joseph and Mira McDougal, to Texas in 1846, being reared in Smith county. Enlisted in Co. H., 35th Texas Cavalry in 1863, Terrill's brigade, and served with that command until the surrender in 1865. He first married Miss Mary P. Lawrence in January 1867, and some years after her death he married Miss Mary L. Wood in 1881. He has been a merchant, farmer, and held the office of Tax Collector of Smith county. He has two children, a boy and girl, both grown and Pominent. His postoffice is Tyler, Texas.
