TEXANS WHO WORE THE GRAY by Sid S. Johnson

JOHN A. POOL.

John Altman Pool was born the 17th of October, 1845, in Sumpter 
County, Ala., and came to Texas in December 1852. In 1862 he enlisted 
in Co., H, 35th Texas Cavalry and served with his regiment as a private 
until the surrender in 1865. Was in all the campaigns with his command 
in the Trans­Mississippi army.  He is a prominent farmer and citizen and 
his postoffice is Mt. Sylvan, Texas.  He has been married three times.  
The first with Miss Tennie Stroud; 2nd, Miss Angie McGhee. 3rd, Miss 
Malinda Givens.  He made a good soldier and is now a leading citizen 
of his community.
