Johnson WHITAKER BROTHERS Orren, Henry and Pleasant C. Whitaker, the sons of J. M. Whitaker, enlisted from Tyler, Texas, in the Confeder­ate army in Speight's regiment, being the 15th Texas. These three brothers made fine soldiers and performed all their duties to the state. They belonged to Walker's division, a part of the Trans-Mississippi army. Orren died in Little Rock, Ark, January 4th 1863. Henry died at Alexander, La., a few days after the battle of Mansfield. Pleasant C. died in Tyler, Texas, in 1862, They were in the same regi­ment and proudly wore the gray until death claimed them. These young soldiers passed over the river and answered the final roll call with the conviction of having performed a sacred duty to their country.
