Mathilda is a charter member of the East Texas Genealogical Society, 
having attending the first meeting.  She has refused a number of 
offices in the Society, preferring to stay in the background and give 
of her unselfish labors for the benefit of the organization.

Mathilda's ready willingness to help whereever she is needed has made 
it possible for the Society to publish many of our publications.

She has spent countless hours doing beautiful typing, collating and 
alphabetizing.  Only the workers know about the tremendous number of 
hours she has contributed.

For all of these things, as well as her loyalty, the East Texas 
Genealogical Society's officers, directors and members dedicate this 
book to Mathilda Underwood, a wonderful lady who always stands ready 
to help with our many projects.
