A. - Cemeteries that are primarily African-American -------------------------------------------------------------------- PREFACE This is the fourth in a series of publications projected by the East Texas Genealogical Society to transcribe and publish all the cemetery inscriptions in Smith County, Texas. Volume I, published in 1983, covered Oakwood and Rose Hill Cemeteries in the City of Tyler. Volume II, published in 1983, covered the Northwest Quarter of the county defined as being bounded on the east by State Highway No. 14 running through Tyler to the county line on the north, and bounded on the south by State Highway No 64 running through Tyler to the county line on the west. Vo1ume III, published in 1984, covered the southwest quarter of the county defined as being bounded on the north by State Highway No. 64 running through Ty1er to the county line on the west, and bounded on the east by State Highway 69 running through Tyler to the county line on the south. This Volume IV covers the southeast quarter of the county defined as bounded on the north by State Highway No. 31 running from Tyler to the county line on the east, and bounded on the west by State Highway No. 69 running from Tyler to the county line om the south. We have made every effort to reproduce the inscriptions accurately, and we will welcome any corrections or additions that a reader may call to our attention. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ACKNOWLEDGMENTS We wish to express our appreciation to the following individuals, without whose efforts this book would not have been possible. Cemetery Committee Chairmen Much credit muSt be given to the two individuals under whose leadership this Southeast Quarter of Smith County was completed: Sally McAdams Garner who began the project, and Martha Ann Glover who carried it through to completion.
