There not being a quorum present yesterday, the church went into Conference today and after inviting brothern to seats with us and opening the door of the church. The Commitee appointed to draft the Constitution and Rule of Decorum and Covenant. Reported and was unaniniously adopted; After which Conference adjourned to next regular meeting. E. M. E. M. Carter, Moderator open in usual form on motion Brother T. J. Mangham and E. P. Thedford were elected delgates to attend the Cherokee Association and a petitionary letter to be prepared and presented by the Clerk at our next meeting. On motion Bros. T. J. Mangham Wm. E. M. Carter for Pastor and E. P. Thedford Church's Clerk. 5th On motion to amend the first rule of Decorum to have the minutes of present Conference read and adopted instead of the preceding; 6th On motion adjournment to day. On action went into the Choice of Deligates to the Cherokee Association which resulted in the choice of the following Brothern to go, William Hathorn, Wm. Cobb and William Thedford in case of Tailure a letter to be prepared by the clerk which was and read and adopted. On Monday opened the door of the Church when Sitter Marget Gilum came forward and was rec'd by Experience. L. Wesley then went into Conference. Ist invited Broth and Sisters to seats with us 2nd Open the door of the Church for the recption of members 3rd On motion the Church requested Br. Wesley to Preach at our regular appointments when desired by the Pastor, and to make appointments of his own to fill, to suit his own conveniences. 4th On motion Br. Wm Hawthorn and E. W. Smith are called to their active duties as Deacons to this Church. A commitee appointed to revise the Rules of our Decorum. They consist of the folowing Brothern: Wm. Hawthorn, E. W. Smith, and E. P. D. 1871. After an ernest sermon from Bro. Callohan, Church went into Conference. First invited visiting Breth. to seats with us and opened the door of the Church. When we received Sister Sarah Price by Letter. Upon the call for acknowledgements Bro. Wm. Griffin presented himself with an acknowledgement of having been drown unwithingly into intoication with his sorrow and asked for the candid action of the Church upon it. Church after mature deliberation acepted his acknowledgements. After exhorting him in veiw of his informates, to substain henceforth from any use of intoxicating drinks. Bro. Callahan having set forth his appointment by the Executive Board for the Cherokee Baptist Association to the Missionary work the destitute peaces within the Bounds of the Associations, Church decided to corperate heartly with the objects of the work and oppointed our next regular Sabbath meeting as the time at which special and general collection shall be for that purpose. Thrid on motion taken up the charge prefered against Bro Griffin intoxication finding him to be guilty of the charge, On motion the Church unanionously withdraw her fellowship from him. Fourth on motion the Church informers her Delegates to with draw from the Association for the purpose of organizing a new one. Fifth On motion this Church unanimously call Br. Dobbs. for intoxication and swearing also sister Margaret Gilliland for dancing. Fourth On motion the Moderator appointed a Commitee of three Brothern to wit Wm. Hawthorn, Elder H. L. Wesley and Edward Smith to see and inquire into the correcness of rumers current in county affecting their Christian Charcter and summons them to appear before the Church at its next Conference to answer said charges. Thedford, C.C. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 32nd March 9th The Baptist Church of Christ at Deven Leagues meet Saturday before the second Sabath in March the Year of our Lord 1872. after Divine Services by our Pastor Then went into Conference. lst Invited vs Brth and sis to seats with us 2nd Opened the door of Church for recpt of mem 3rd Called for the reading of the reference and also the reports of the Comitee and Br. J.H.L. Wesley the only one present reported and the comitee discharged Br. Wm. Thedford being present makes acknowledgement to the Church for being intoxicated which satisfies her to retain him. Br. J. T. Dobbs being present denies the charges of being intoxicated but acknowledges that he does swear at times, but he promises to try to do better hereafter if the Church will bear with him, which she promises to do. On motion this Church withdraws Her fellowship from Sister Margaret Gilliland under the acknowledgement she makes for dancing. On motion this Church grant Elder J.H.L. Wesley a Letter of dismission Then also Sister Elisabeth Hargrove. On motion adjourned E. M. Carter Mod E. P. W. Smith volenteered as a delegate. 5th On motion this Church takes into consideration the propriety and impropriety of a Public School being taugh in this House. When Brths Elder E. M. Carter a regular ordained Minister of the Gospel present a Letter for Reception which is heartily received his reasons maid known for so doing. Second Called the reading of the Reference from last Conference which is read and taken up and on Motions This Church grants Miss Zackry the privalege of teaching in this House until the first of July or the term of this Session by taking good care of the house and being responsable for damages. They reported and are discharged. Third The Letter to the Association was read and adopted Fourth On motion the Church went into the Choice of Pastor for the next insuing year which resulted in the choice of bro E. M. Carter ununaimously Fifth On motion the Church appoints a Commitee of 3 brethren to see it Edw Smith, Wm.
