I have nothing of great interest to write at present, only the feds has crost (sp.) the Atchafalaya bayou and have camped on the Mississippi near Montgomery. We are camped near Mooresville on ____________ There is no likely hood of a fight in a short time. The feds is very much demoralized and unwilling to fight. There is know news a stir now. Everything is still ever since the feds left. It is a rumor in camp that we will move down the country 35 or 40 miles in a few days. We are a living on poor beef and coarse corn-bread yet and no hope of the better but still I hope that we will have peas this fall or next spring. So I have nothing more of interest to write at present. I will close. Well, you wrote to me if they made me fight to kill an officer and want you to tell me whither (sp) it was a Yankee officer or a Southern Officer that you wanted me to kill? Yours respectfully, J.W.
