Paxton 330 Cedar Street Abilene, Texas The record show that one ANDREW J. SCARBOROUGH, not found as ANDREW JACKSON SCARBOROUGH, served as Captain of Company B, (DAVIS Guards) 4th Regiment Texas Cavalry, Confederate States Army. The date of his entry into service is not stated, but his name appears on a muster roll of the organization for July, 1861. Other muster rolls show that he was enrolled from De Witt County, Texas, and his age in August 1861, was stated as 34 years. His resignation was accepted to take effect May 16, 1862. The records also show that one A. J. SCARBOROUGH (signature resembles that of the above name) served as a private in the same company. The date and place of his entry into service is not stated, but a regimental return of the organization for the month of December 1863, reports him absent, detached service since December 16, 1863. There are no muster rolls on file in this office A regimental return of the organization for the month of March, 1865, reports him absent sick in Hospital at Tyler since January 1, 1865. He was surrendered by General E. K. SMITH May 26, 1865, and paroled at Natchitoches, Louisiana June 21, 1865. His residence at that time was stated as Smith County, Texas. The record further show that one ANDREW J. SCARBOROUGH was enrolled and mustered into service August 14, 1847, at Jackson Par., Louisiana, in Company G,lst Regiment (DeRUSSEY'S), Louisiana Infantry, for the period of the War with Mexico; was promoted to sergeant from the ranks December 20, 1847, and was mustered out with the company and honorably discharged the service as a sergeant July 8, 1848, at New Orleans, La.
