D. Phillips of Tyler. Discussion opened by Dr. J. C. Davis of Bullard. "Osteopathy," Dr. J T. Bell of Tyler. Discussion opened by Dr. D. H. Connally of Tyler. "Treatment of Hemorrhoids," by Dr. A. S. Jarvis of Troupe. Discussion opened by Dr. A. P. Baldwin of Tyler. "Review of the Work of Health Departments in Different States, and A Plea for a State Board of Health for Texas," by Dr. Albert Woldert of Tyler. Discussion opened by Dr. W. A. Crook of Lindale. For the benefit of those members of the Smith County Medical Society who are unable to attend this meeting your secretary desires to state that the hearty cooperation of the different members of the Society has helped to defeat iniqpitious bills in the Texas legislature, looking to the recognition of a so-called "school" of medicine. It is only by such united effort that our influence may be felt for the suppression of ignorant pretenders and imposters. The Supreme Court of Missouri on February 15th, 1905, held that osteopaths were neither physicians nor surgeons. Any one may practice osteopathy (rubbing) in Texas even though they have never seen a medical college. Your secretary further wishes to say that in connection with several committees appointed by the Smith County Medical Society he has after great labor during the past year obtained a complete roster and in addition has gone over the credentials of every physician practicing medicine in this county. This work has been deemed of the greatest importance from the fact that we can not regulate the "quacks" until we have first "regulated" ourselves. Your secretary is glad to say that the Smith County Medical Society is the first County Medical society in the State to obtain the complete credentials of its physicians. It is hoped that every member of the Society will preserve this roster, and further that each one will consider it his duty (that is to make himself a committee of one) to examine the records here in the office of the district clerk, in the case of all new doctors who come among us. When it has been found that such person has not complied with the medical laws to make such report to the Society. The grand jury will do the rest. Your secretary desires to state that since this "work of examining the credentials was first started that several physicians who had not complied with the medical laws have removed from the county, and they will bother us no longer. Five members of the Society have not yet paid their annual dues and are urged to do so at once. Those who have not paid the special assessment of 50 cents will also please make prompt remittance. The sum of $56 has been sent to the secretary of the State Medical Association, this amount being in payment for membership fees of the 28 members who have paid their dues to the State Medical Association.
