B. Rushing of Whitehouse is in the city today. Jas. O. Wiley returned from New Orleans this morning and immediately proceeded to Austin. M. Pittuck came in from the south this morning. Mrs. Will Hanson has returned to the city after a visit to her father at Omen. She reports his conditin not so favorable. Merchant Wilson of Omen, is our streets today. City Attorney Robert Dorough and Mr. D. M. Reedy returned from Austin this forenoon. Miss Mary Sawyer left at noon today for Carthage, Mo., to visit relatives. She will go from there to points in Massachusetts. L. L. Jester came in from the west on the noon Cotton Belt. Judge S. A. Lindsey came in from the west today on the noon Cotton Belt. Ed Hayth arrived home on the noon Cotton Belt from a commercial tour. M. V. Thedford, of the Noonday community, was in town today and paid the Courier a pleasant call. Rev. Alford of the Bascom community was in town today. ---------------------------------------------------------------- BUSINESS CHANGES HANDS. Smyre & Templeton Sell Their Stock of Groceries to C. L. Caspary. Smyre & Templeton, who for some time have conducted a grocery business on West Erwin street, have sold out to C. L. Caspary, who is now invoicing the stock. Mr. Tom Smyre and Mrs. Bob Templeton, in retiring from the grocery business, have the satisfaction of knowing that they have made a host of friends who cannot speak too highly of them for their courteous treatment and gentlemanly methods of conducting business. They are good citizens - progressive and enterprising, and the Courier trusts they will soon be in active business again. ---------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASANT GROVE We are sorry to report Mr. Jeff Ginn on the sick list, but he is some better. Brother Parker filled his regular appointment here Saturday and Sunday and Sunday night. He talked to a large audience. A wild cat was seen near the school house Wednesday by George Lowery and Simon Webb. Several shots wer fired at the animal, but it was not killed and is yet at large. Mr. Oscar Lowery and wife of Harmony community, attended church at this place Sunday. Mr and Mrs. Lyons of Bass, came also. Misses Yancy and Fannie Perdue attended church at Sharon Sunday. The boys are anticipating a basball game here Saturday afternoon. Come to the base ball game. S. L. Elliott is the only one here who has planted corn. The most of us haven't prepared the land yet. Simon and Walter went down in the Jack Oaks Sunday. Rollen Ginn of Harmony Community, was here Wednesday. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ FROM DEAN COMMUNITY The farmers of this commujity have been very busy lately preparing land for corn planting. Some corn has already been planted. The weather is again clear after a couple of days' rain. We are glad to note that Mrs. Sallie Brooks is up again after a long spell of pneumonia. We are sorry to report that Uncle Will Walker has the lagrippe. He is at Lee Walker's. Mrs. Mary Brokks, who has been quite sick is now better. Our school has closed until summer. Mr. W. T. Griffin is our teacher and he has done good work here. We are glad to see our mail carrier on his route again. Mr. McKay rode in his place while he took his much-needed rest. The Union people report a big time at the school house on Saturday evening. Mrs. Luther and Mrs. Sinclair sent some interesting pieces and Mrs. A. J. Cook made a helpful and entertaining talk. Wake up, Black Fork; and come again. Let us hear from Pleasant Retreat. BOB ------------------------------------------------------------------------ GOT BIG CONTRACT Mrs. D. W. Parish of the Tyler Marble Works, is Lowest Bidder On Stone Work For New Cotton Belt Depot. Mrs. D. W. Parish, owner of the Tyler Marble Works stated to the Courier man yesterday afternoon that she had just received notification of her being awarded this contract for the stonework on the new Cotton Belt depot. Mr. Parish is quite proud of this contract, not only from the fact that it will good money contract, but also because of the lively bidding for the work. Contractors from other cities of the state, were after the work, but the Tyler lady with commendable energy and close figuring landed the job. Mrs. Paris deserves great credit for the intelligent and business like manor to which she handles the affairs of the Tyler Marble Works. She took charge of the work about one year ago wholly inexperienced and since that time she has handled some big contracts.
