Col. R B. Hubbard -- A late number of the "Crusader," published at at Pennfield, Georgia, gives an account of the commencement exercises of Mercer University, in which the address of Col R. B Hubbard, of Tyler, Smith county, is noticed in a most complimentary manner. It says: "On Wednesday evening Col. R. B. Hubbard, of Texas, delivered the Annual Address before the two Literary Societies, and be it said to his credit, he buried the hustings, ignored all political themes, and led us through inviting fields of literary lore. He pointed out the varied charms of poesy and poetry, and directed the attention of his large auditory to the lamentable defects of our own national literature. He is an able, eloquent and impressive speaker, possessing all the enviable elements of a natural orator. Col. Hubbard is one among the most promising of Mercer's Alumni, and his address added much to his already flattering reputation." We learn from the Tyler Reporter that Col. Hubbard arrived at home on Friday the 20th ult, in fine health. He was on board the steamer Lotus which boat we noticed last week as having sunk in Red River,--with his usual good luck he escaped without even a wetting. The Colonel is a rising man and has a bright future before him.
