C., December 22, 1842, and died at his home near Starrville, Smith County, Texas, July 13, 1899. He moved from Graniteville, S. C., to Texas in 1875. In his eighteenth year he enlisted with the 16th South Carolina Regiment, and remained in active service until the battle of Atlanta, July 22, where he lost a leg and was compelled to cease fighting. Early in 1862 he enlisted in the army of Christ, and faithfully performed his duty as a soldier of the Cross till the Great Captain said: "It is enough; come up higher!" For thirty- two years he followed the profession of teaching public school. How often have we heard him ask the Heavenly Father for divine guidance in leading his own and other precious children entrusted to his care aright. In his death we have lost a devoted husband, a kind and loving father, a safe counsellor and guide. We shall indeed miss him; yet, we thank God, that while our hearts are bowed down in sorrow, we know where to find him. He taught us how to live; he showed us how to die. We'll meet again. HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN.
