Gaston Died This Morning This morning, in the person of Dr. F. E. Gaston, Tyler lost a widely loved and very distinguished citizen. Dr. Gaston was born in Mississippi on Oct. 7th, 1849. Died in Tyler, July 16th, 1913. About 1870 Dr. Gaston was graduated from the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery. For some six years he practiced his profession in Mississippi and Nashville, Tenn. While in Nashville he was married to Miss Bessie Jones on the 4th day of May, 1876. The happy young couple started at once for Texas and landed in Tyler on May 12th of the same year. They went at once to the hospitable home of their kinsman, Dr. Wm. Goodman. For 36 years Dr. Gaston practiced dentistry in the same office. During these years no man has done more to commend himself to the good citizenship of this city and Smith County. Today his death is mourned by thousands. Dr. Gaston at the age of 12 years was converted and joined the Cumberland Presbyterian church. Later, with his family he joined Marvin Methodist church of this city. For 12 years a superintendent of the Sunday school and for many years a leading official of this church, Dr. Gaston has been actively identified with every good work in Tyler for the past 36 years. The father of Dr. Gaston was the late E. Gaston of Mississippi. His brothers, R. E. Gaston, Tyler; J. F. Gaston, Vinita, Okla; John W. Gaston, Meridian and Jeff D. Gaston Oktoc, Miss. Dr. F. E. Gaston leaves his widow and six children, all grown: Dr. T. E. Gaston, city; Roy J. Gaston Mineola, Fin. E. Gaston, Jr., Marshall; Mrs. Thel Williams, Mrs. F. R. Coker and Miss Bessie F. Gaston of this city. The funeral services will take place from the family residence at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning. Interment in this city. Dr. W. F. Andrews of Marvin Methodist church and Dr. J. S. Logan of the First Presbyterian church will have charge of the services. In the death of Dr. Finis Ewing Gaston, the city of Tyler suffers a great loss. Noble qualities blended in his to make his loved, useful and great. The death of such a man leaves the world poorer. The Courier-Times extends sympathy to the large circle of relatives and friends.
