DIED AT PITTSBURG	

The Courier was informed at noon today through Mrs. Dr. John Adams,
West Ferguson street, that Rev. John S. Mathis died at Pittsburg,
Texas, at 8 o'clock this morning.  Rev. Mathis preached many years 
ago in this county.  He was on the Whitehouse circuit for a number 
of years in the 70's.  He was stationed at Henderson, in Rusk county, 
and at Rusk; in Cherokee county.  He was a valuable minister and was 
highly esteemed by all who had the pleasure of his acquaintance.  
He was in Tyler at the annual confernece held here where he spent 
several days with old time friends.  He was about 70 years of age 
at his death.
