Note: Some of the dates and spelling of names vary from other records. - Dr. Alma Moore Freeland The Troup Banner A. J. MOORE PASSES AWAY At f o'clockk p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, the spirity of A. J. Moore took its flisht after he had suffered an illness of several years duration. He was born in Mississippi december 13, 1848, and was, therefore, in his 71st year. In his younger days he was one of the most active men in the community both in business and in political and community matters; but in later years he had retired from more active pursuits and was devoted wholly to his religion and his home life. A. J. Moore and miss Dorothy Melton were married in 1870, and she survives him, together with six sons born to them as follows: Pro. C. M. Moore of Dallas, Lee Moore of Kerens, S. G. Moore of Hereford, Prof. John of Tyler, Jack, Jr., recently going from Troup to Longview, and Sam of Waco. The remains were laid to rest Sunday afternoon at Union Grove, Rev. J. A. C. Bridges of Arp conducting funeral services at the residence and Rev. E. F. Thompson of our community delivering an address at the graveside. Thus ends the career of a good man, one whom all Troup respected. ********************************* Tyler Courier Times - Sept. 20, 1919 PROMINENT CITIZEN OF TROUP DIED YESTERDAY AFTERNOON Mr. A. J. Moore, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Troup, died at his home there yesterday afternoon after an illness of several months. Deceased was about 89 years of age and had lived in Troup for many years. Some years ago he suffered from a stroke of paralysis from which he never entirely recovered. Mr. Moore is survived by his widow and several sons, Prof. J. E. Moore of this city, Pro. Charles Moore of Dallas, and others residing at Troup. The funeral will likely be held at Troup tomorrow. ********************************* ANDREW JACKSON MOORE Born in De Kalb, Kemper County, Mississippi, December 13, 1848.
