Rowland who died Tuesday, Tyler lost an old citizen who contributed for a long number of years to the welfare of the city, county and state. It is these old gentlement like Mr. Rowland that we younger ones owe our present opportunities. These old men are who are now passing from us paved the way. They took the brunt of the hardships of the Civil War, of developing a new country and of establishing business, schools and other important things under most difficult conditions. Those of us who talk about hard times now know nother about what hard times really are. Ben Rowland came to Tyler when Tyler was merely a gap in the wilderness. He was one of the pioneer druggist of Tyler and by his energy, perservance and honesty he succeeded in life, succeeded in making friends and lived to see his efforts bear fruit. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Cemetery Records of Smith County, TX, Volume I, Oakwood and Rose Hill Cemeteteries, The East Texas Genealogical Society, 1981, Tyler, TX Page 135 Rose Hill Cemetery, Section C Ben W.
