Historical Commission Name: Wilson Halsted White Photo can be seen at: http://www.usgwarchives.net/tx/statewide/photos/white3032nph.jpg WILSON HALSTED WHITE Wilson Halsted White was born in Franklin County, Tennessee, on November 15, 1830, and came to the Republic of Texas with his family in 1834. As a young man he joined the Texas Rangers in Belton. He remained with the rangers until the beginning of the Civil War, when he joined the first company of volunteers of which his brother was organizer and captain. He enlisted in 1861 in Company D, 21st Regiment, Texas Cavalry, Parsons Brigade, Wharton Division. He was a first lieutenant and served the entire was a “Piper” because of his aptness in giving military calls on a bugle. After the war ended, White settled permanently in Davilla, where he was the proprietor of a general store. W,H. (Piper) White was married in 1860 to Samanthe Imogene Sypert, daughter of W.C. and Permilia Perry Sypert. An official Texas Historical Marker was placed at the Sypert’ grave in Davilla Cemetery in June 1986. Samanthe was born March 30, 1840. White died Feburary 23, 1912, and Mrs. White died August 4, 1930. Their marked graves are in Davilla Cemetery. Piper and Samanthe White’s children were: Edwin H., who married Pearl Young; Frank; Robert M., who married Minnie Hunt; Helen May, who married Dudley Barrett; Ida, who married Robert Park Kerr; Eva, who married Henry Lehman; and Rena, who married C.M.
