Black, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.H. Ackers, in Pomona, California, on Monday 21 April 1924 at the Breckenridge First Christian church with the Rev. Randolph Clark officiating, assisted by Rev. S.J. Shettleworth, pastor of the church. She was Miss Sarah A. Brawley, and was born in North Carolina on 15 December 1843. She moved with her family to Texas about 1850 and settled in Fannin County, where she was married to Henry Black in 1865. They moved to Stephens county in 1877, and settled on BuffordÕs Creek, where Mr. Black, known as ÒUncle Henry,Ó established the ÒMule Shoe RanchÓ of 10,000 acres and which is still owned and operated by two of their sons, William and Jack Black. In about 1880, they moved to Breckenridge. Uncle Henry died in May 1906, and since that time Mrs. Black has made her home with different children. Henry Black was a pioneer cattleman, and one of the largest tax payers in Stephens County. He was actively identified with numerous financial enterpirses, and was an original stockholder in the First Nationa Bank of Breckenridge, of which he was a director at the time of his death. Mr. And Mrs. Black were charter members of the First Christian church of Breckenridge. Rev. Randolph Clark, who will conduct the funeral services, came with his brother, Addison Clark, many miles across the country in a buggy to assist in the founding of the Church. Both Mr. And Mrs. Black were loyal and zealous workers in the church were generous with their hospitality raised many orphans and contributed generously to charity and benevolent enterprises. The Breckenridge Daily American Breckenridge, Texas Friday, April 25, 1924 Funeral held this afternoon in the First Christian church for Mrs. Sarah Black, who died Monday in California. One of the largest floral offerings ever seen at a funeral here was banked about the casket and altar of the church. Deceased was of one of the most prominent citizens in this section of the state an was known far and wide. She was a charter member of the First Christian Church in Breckenridge and the services were conducted by Elder Randolph Clark and Rev. R.J. Shettlesworth, who eulogized the life and works of deceased in beautiful terms. Burial was in East Side cemetery under direction of M.P. Kiker of the Thompson under taking company.
