Tx Submitted by Dorothy Baitz Clark dmclark@bigcountry.net HOOKER CEMETERY Information submitted for this document by Dorothy Baitz Clark (Mrs. Joe A.) Hooker Cemetery in Stonewall County of Texas is northeast of the town of Old Glory which is located on Texas Highway 380 between Aspermont and Rule, Texas. To reach the cemetery you will go North out of Old Glory on FM1835, next take CR 252 N and then CR 253 E. According to the Stonewall County History book published in 1979, the land for the cemetery was donated by a Mr. Cole. Epitaphs tell of five soldiers that fought for our nation dating back to the Civil War. James Allen Harris was the first casualty from Stonewall County in WWI. The Harris-Herttenberger American Legion Post in Aspermont was named for James Allen Harris and another Old Glory boy, Gene Herttenberger who was the first casualty in WWII. Gene is buried in the Old Glory cemetery. There are numerous gravesites in this cemetery that are marked by a flat stone, a large rock or an unreadable funeral home marker, but we have been unable to find a record of who is buried there. Carl Hunt, now deceased, stated that the first person to be buried at Hooker is buried east of the gate at the Southwest corner of the cemetery. There is a mound of dirt there with several flat stones, but no name. It is not known at this point in time who maintains the grounds of the cemetery, but at the time of this report, it is well maintained and well kept.
