J. Funeral services are pending for Thomas Jefferson Fambro, 64 year old Swisher farmer, who died suddenly late Saturday afternoon at his farm southwest of Tulia. Mr. Fambro along with two grandsons had been repairing a fence and throwing bundles. Since the weather was cold and the work was almost completed, he told the youngsters to go on to the house and he would follow later. When he failed to come in within a reasonable time the grandsons returned to find him dead, having suffered a heart attack. He was born Sept 29,1888 in Arkansas. He came to Tulia two years ago from Snyder where he had lived for 28 years. Survivors include his wife MRS. BULA FAMBRO; three sons, Hugh Fambro of McGrath, Alaska; Carl W. Fambro of Lomax and Travis Fambro of Tulia; three daughters, Mrs. J. C. Fields of San Luis Obispo, Calif., Mrs. Elisha Burns and Mrs. Martin Mayton, both of Dallas and Mrs. Cleave Mayton of Hope, Ark.; and three brothers, L. M. Of Harlingen, O. H. And F. H. both of Dallas. Funeral services will be held at the Central Church of Christ with W. P. Dennis, minister, officiating. Date and hour of the service are pending the arrival of the son from Alaska. The body is at Wallace Funeral Home. The Tulia Herald, 27 Nov. 1952 FARMER, Mrs. C. M. Mrs. C. M. Farmer of Purdon, sister of Mrs. W. L. Frost and mother of J. W. Farmer, formerly of Happy, passed away Saturday, after a lingering illness. Services were held Monday in Dresden. The Happy Herald, 22 June 1944 FAULKNER, J. B. Word was received here Tuesday afternoon that J. B. Faulkner, father of Mrs. G. H. Jones, died at his home in Bellevue. Mrs. Jones and Belva and Johnie B. Lipe left on the 8:10 train for Bellevue. Supt. Jones attended the superintendents' meeting in Canyon Wednesday, planned to leave Wednesday night in order to get to Bellevue in time for the funeral. Services are to be held at that place at 3 p.m. Thursday, pending arrival of a son from California. The Happy Herald, 29 October 1936 FEE, E. B. E. B. Fee, 49, died Tuesday morning at his home ten miles west of Happy where he had been engaged in fanning for a number of years. He had been in ill health for a number of months. Mr. Fee is survived by his wife. The funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 at the Baptist Church in Canyon. Rev. J. T. Corder, Tulia, and Rev. G. M. Stuart, Canyon, were in charge. The Masonic Lodge of Canyon assisted with the services. Interment followed in the Dreamland Cemetery at Canyon in charge of Wallace Funeral Home of Tulia. The Happy Herald, 31 March 1941 FERGUSON, Emma Katherine Two Tulians were killed instantly shortly after three o'clock Friday afternoon in a collision between an automobile and a butane truck four miles north of Tulia on the Vigo Park highway. They were Emma Katherine Ferguson, 9 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Ferguson, 128 N. Crosby and George H. Reeves. Mr. Ferguson is supervisor of the Texas Highway Dept.in Tulia. Seriously injured were Mrs. Ferguson, operator of Unique Beauty Shop, who sustained rib fractures and head injuries and daughter, Gaynelle, 14 years old, whose collarbone was broken. Katherine Ferguson was born Dec. 23, 1944 in Tulia. She would have been a fourth grader in Tulia public schools this fall. Survivors include her parents, and her sister. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Central Church of Christ. W. P. Dennis officiated. He was assisted by Morgan Sturgess. Burial was in Plainview Cemetery under direction of Wallace Funeral Home. The Tulia Herald, 15 July 1954 FERGUSON, G. V. Funeral services for George Van Ferguson, pioneer of the Knox City area were conducted recently at the Knox City Baptist Church with the pastor, Rev. Emil V. Becker, officiating, assisted by Rev. S. E. Stevenson of Goree and Rev. Neil Record, pastor of the Tulia Baptist Church. Mr. Ferguson died early Tuesday morning in Tulia where he was visiting his children. He had been ill the past two weeks with the flu, but had appeared to be much improved at the time of his death. The deceased was born in Alabama on Oct. 18, 1867. He married Miss EASTER CLAYTON in 1888 and the couple came to Knox City in 1916. His wife preceded him in death in 1933. He was a retired farmer. Survivors are four sons, Sidney Ferguson of Comanche, J. B. Ferguson and Sam Ferguson of Knox City and G. T. Ferguson of Tulia; six daughters, Mrs. O. T. McElroy, Miss Winnie Ferguson, Mrs. J. P. Hester and Mrs. Quincy Davis all of Knox City, Mrs. F. L. Montandon of Tulia and Mrs. LeRoy McAuley of Ballinger; and two sisters, Mrs. Ellen Boyd of San Antonio and Mrs. Dan Clayton of Sidney. Also surviving are twenty grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Interment was in the Knox City cemetery. Active pallbearers were all grandsons of the deceased; LeRoy Davis, Charles Ferguson, Irel Ferguson, George McAuley, Tommy Gene Montandon, Junior Montandon and O. T. McElroy, Jr The Tulia Herald, 28 Feb. 1952 FERRELL, E. B. Funeral services were held Sunday in Littlefield for E. B. Ferrell, 20, who was killed instantly when the pickup he was driving blew out a tire. The accident occured on the highway four miles south of Happy about 10:00 Friday morning. The body was taken to Littlefield by the Wallace Funeral Home of Tulia shortly after the accident. The Happy Herald, 27 August 1942 FERRELL, John W. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Ferrell and Mrs. Vincent Black attended the funeral of John W. Ferrell Wednesday in Tucumcari, NM. The deceased, father of Cecil, was a former resident of Tulia. He died Sunday in a Tucumcari hospital. He is survived by 11 children, 43 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. His wife CALLIE DONA died in February of 1945. The Tulia Herald, 29 Oct. 1953 FEWELL, Mrs. W. Death came to Mrs. W. Fewell Tuesday afternoon at her home three miles north of the Jowell school house, after a long serious illness. Mrs. Fewell had been in ill health for some time and since Christmas had been growing steadily worse. The family came her from Coryell County four years ago and settled in the Jowell community, where they became well and favorably known. If Mrs. Fewell had lived four days longer, she would have been 60 years of age. She is survived by her husband, four daughters, Mrs. R E. White, Mrs. Gaines Kinsey, Mrs. C. P. White, and Bertha Fewell; four sons, Claude, Irley, Buron, Happy, and Coleman Fewell of Coryell County. The body was shipped from Happy Wednesday morning to Copperas Cove, Texas, in Coryell County, for burial. It was accompanied by the husband and all the children. Several grandchildren were along. The Happy Herald, 25 April 1930 FINCK, J. A. A pioneer of Swisher County and Texas for 32 years, J. A Finck, a farmer, died at his home Wednesday afternoon of a heart attack at the age of 78 years. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Alva Johnson of Turkey and a former pastor at Tulia of the Church of Christ and burial was made in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Tulia. Born in Wach, Germany, he came to the U. S. At the age of 17, settling in Iowa where he married in 1885. Eight children were added to the family. One boy, John, was killed in action in France during the World War. In addition to the wife seven children survive him. Harry Finck, Hereford; Joe and Ernie Finck, Tuba; Charley Finck, Hart; Mrs. Fred Railing, Hart; and Mrs. Raymond Boehning, Canyon; and Mrs. Len Morgan, Levelland; 21 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Mr. Finck had been a member of the Church of Christ for the past 25 years. Tulia, Texas, 1 Dec. 1939 FINNEY, Belton Funeral services for Belton Finney, 49, farmer near Adrian, and a number of years a resident of Hale and Swisher Counties, were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Kress Church of Christ. Richard Dacus, Kress Church of Christ minister, officiated. Interment was made in the Plainview cemetery. Finney died Friday at the Hereford hospital. He was affected by a heart ailment and had been in poor health for several months. Finney was born June 24, 1902, at Whiteflat and lived in Hale and Swisher most of his life, moving to a farm near Adrian a few years ago. He and MIS S DOME NEWTON were married at Plainview. She is among the survivors. Finney was a member of the Kress Church of Christ. Besides his wife, survivors are eight sons, Odell W. Finney, U. S. Navy, Corpus Christi; James A. Finney, U. S. Navy stationed in Cuba; Oliver R Finney, U. S. Navy stationed in Alaska; Alton W. Finney and Clint E. Finney, both of Ft. Worth, Billy J., Clarence W. and Richard A. Finney, all of Adrian. Three brothers, Jim Finney, Slow Low, Ariz; Dave Finney, Edmondson; three sisters, Mrs. Inez Cherry, Yuba City, Calif., Mrs. A. D. Moore, Kress; and Mrs. Joseph Scott, Austin. Finney and his family lived near Kress in Swisher County and near Edmondson in Hale County. The Tulia Herald, 20 Dec. 1951 FINNEY, James S. James S. Finney, who during his lifetime boasted of having grown a beard to his boot tops, actually measuring 47 and one half inches, was buried at Running Water Tuesday afternoon after services held at 2 o'clock in his hometown of Kress. Having reached his 82nd year, Mr. Finney has lived in Swisher County 20 years. During most of this time he has farmed, although his earlier lifetime sparkles with experiences of ranches and cattle trails running from Texas into northwestern states and Canada. Death came at 10 o'clock Sunday evening at his home, resulting from a stroke of apoplexy. He has been in failing health since a similar stroke two years ago. Mr. Finney was born in Alabama and moved with his parents to Hopkins County at the age of two, where he was reared. In 1892 he and Mrs. ADDIS JONES were married in Seymour. She preceded him in death four years ago. Mr. Finney is survived by: five sons and three daughters. Sons include F. E. Finney at Wildorado, James N. Finney of Showlow, Ariz., Dave Finney of Brownfield, Belton Finney of Kress and J. Q. Finney of Edmondson. Daughters are Mrs Guy Cherry, Yuba City, Calif.; Mrs. Joe B. Scott of Austin, and Mrs. A. D. Moore, who with her husband lived in the father's home in Kress, assisting him in his farming duties. Also surviving are 26 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The Tulia Herald, 29 Aug. 1940 FINNEY, Zera Lena A woman identified as Mrs. Zera Lena Finney, 58, of Amarillo, was found dead in her 1950 model automobile about 9:45 a.m. Tuesday morning. The car was discovered north of town on Highway 87 near Star Grain Co. According to investigating officers, apparently she had become ill and attempted to drive off the pavement. She was traveling at a slow rate of speed. The car went through a fence and continued about 50 ft. before stopping, according to officers. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon at Kress Methodist Church. Rev. Russell McAnnelly assisted by Rev. Pogue conducted the rites. Burial was in Kress cemetery. She was born July 15, 1891 in Van Zandt County and was married to F. E. FINNEY at Red Springs in 1907. For 22 years they lived four miles south of Kress. Mr. Finney died in 1949. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. H. L. Chilton and Mrs. Verdis Chilton, both of Amarillo; and three sisters, Mrs. John Slagle, Seyour; Mrs. Floyd Compton, Plainview, and Mrs. A. J. Samsill, Phoenix, AZ. Burial was under direction of Wallace Funeral Home, Tulia. The Tulia Herald, 25 Jan. 1951 FITE, Jeptha Marion Funeral services for Jeptha Marion Fite, 76, retired oil man who lived in Tulia until three years ago, were held Monday afternoon at Cisco Church of Christ. W. E. Moore, minister, officiated. Mr. Fite died at his home at Cisco Saturday afternoon following a heart attack which he suffered Thursday afternoon. Before his retirement, he had served as agent for the Texas Co. For almost 20 years. He was born in Paris Feb. 17, 1875. While a boy he moved to Moran with his parents where he lived until his work as field supt. For the Texas Company took him to other West Texas towns. For several years, he was employed by the Texas and Pacific Railroad as engineer, living in Baird. He was married to MISS MAE FORBESS in Moran Oct. 11, 1896. Since his retirement, he has spent most of his time growing flowers. He had been a member of the Church of Christ since his youth. Survivors include his wife; a foster daughter, Mrs. Charley Dove, Moses, NM; two sisters, Mrs. Belle Lustad, pioneer, and Mrs. Frank Martin, Cisco. Burial was in Moran Cemetery. Among the pallbearers was Harry Chenoweth of Tulia. The Tulia Herald, 4 January 1951 FLIPPO, Urias H. Funeral rites for Urias H. Flippo, 64, well known farmer-stockman of this community were held Tuesday afternoon at the Kress Baptist Church. Mr. Flippo, a resident of Happy the past 12 years, died at his home Sunday. Rev. E. S. Weathers, pastor of the Seth Ward Baptist Church at Plainview, assisted by Rev. Clarence Howell, Kress Baptist pastor, officiated. Mr. Flippo was born Feb. 22, 1877, in Red River County. The family moved to Happy in 1929. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife and ten children. Children are: Lester of Kress; John, Forster, Okla; Ben Flippo, Happy; Mrs. J. E. Parmetree, Purcell, Okla.; Mrs. T. D. Jackson, Lindwey, Okla.; Mrs. S. G. Moore, Amarillo; Mrs. Lyle Skidmore, Dallas; Mrs. R D. Smith, Mansville, Okla.; and Mrs. C. D. And J. G. Jackson, both of Blanchard, Okla. The Happy Herald, 1 Jan. 1942 FONKEN, A. A. Funeral services for A A Fonken, Swisher County stockman and farmer, who died early Tuesday morning at the home of his son in Happy, will be held today (Thursday) at 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Rev. E. B. Fincher of Amarillo officiating. The deceased had been in ill health for some time. Mr. Fonken who was 78 years old, had resided in and near Happy more than 40 years. He was a native of Illinois. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. KATHERINE FONKEN; four sons, Albert Fonken, Philomath, Ore.; Bill Fonken, Happy; Oscar Fonken, Great Bend, Kan; and Ebner Fonken, Hondo, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Grace Stewart, Stinnett; and three grandchildren. He also leaves two brothers John Fonken, Willow Lake, S. D.; and Dick Fonken, of Manning, Iowa. The Happy Herald, 24 Dec. 1942 FONKEN, Mrs. Catherine Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the Presbyterian Church in Happy for Mrs Catherine Fonken, 89, resident of the Panhandle of Texas for almost half a century. Mrs. Fonken died Friday at St. Anthony Hospital in Amarillo. She had made her home with a son, E. D. Fonken in Fritch since June. She was the widow of A. A. Fonken of Happy and was a native of Germany. She came to the United States when she was 17 years old. The family settled in Iowa and she moved to Happy following her marriage. Mr. Fonken operated a farm there from the time of their arrival in 1907 until his death in 1942. She was a member of the Happy Presbyterian Church. In addition to her son in Fritch, she was survived by two sons, A J. Fonken, Oakland, Ore. And O. H. Fonken, Beatrice, Neb.; a daughter, Mrs. O. D. Stewart, Albuquerque; two brothers and a sister; Henry and Hans Orht and Mrs. Henry Biehl, all of Manning, Iowa; and three grandchildren. The Tulia Herald, 21 October 1954 FONKEN, Elmer Charles Elmer Charles Fonken,12 , son of Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Fonken of Philomath, Oregon, was taken suddenly ill of acute traumatic meningitis late Sunday evening, April 3,1932 and died at 12:10 Monday, April 4th. The little boy had been partially paralyzed since receiving an injury in his spine while playing baseball two years ago, but was apparently as usual Sunday until seized with the fatal illness. The deceased child was born at Happy, Texas, March 12, 1920. He is survived by his parents and one sister, Catherine. The funeral was held Wednesday at 2:30 from the College Chapel. Rev. Morris Goodrich officiating with interment in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Ebner was a member of the 4th grade at West School .....Elmer was born in Happy and lived here until three years ago, whenhe with his parents moved to Philomoth, Oregon. He is a grandson of both A A. Fonken and C. F. Zoeller. The family have many friends here who will be grieved. The Happy Herald, 13 May 1932 FONKEN, W. H. W. H. Fonken, long time resident of Happy, died Monday at 11:00 a.m. in an Amarillo hospital following a weeks illness. Funeral services were held from the Church of Christ in Happy Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. with minister Grady Cooper of Amarillo officiating. Burial was in the Happy Cemetery. Mr. Fonken is survived by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Charles Alverson. His mother, Mrs. A. A. Fonken, one sister, Mrs. O. D. Stewart and three brothers also survive. The brothers are: A. J. Fonken of Philomath, Oregon; Oscar Fonken of Beatrice, Neb.; and Ebner Fonken of Fritch. Funeral arrangements were in charge of Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Home of Amarillo. The Happy Herald, 13 Julv 1944 FOOTS, Miss Eleanor Sue Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sprowls attended the funeral of his niece, Miss Eleanor Foote, at Haskell, Thursday. Miss Eleanor Sue Foote, 26, secretary in the administrative office of Haskell Public Schools and acting secretary of the School Board, died Wednesday afternoon at 4:35 in the Haskell Hospital of influenza. Immediate survivors include her father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. R L. Foote, two sisters, Mrs. Maurice Gannaway and Miss Hazel Foote, a brother, Garvin Foote, all of Haskell; grandmother, Mrs. R H. Sprowls of Mineral Wells; and grandfather, C. H. Foote of Spur. Funeral services were held at the First Methodist Church where the deceased had been a member since early childhood. She was preceded in death by her mother 19 years ago. Burial was in Willow Cemetery at Haskell. The Happy Herald, 8 Feb. 1940 FORE, D. F. T. L. Fore received word here Sunday morning Sept. 24 that his brother D. F. Fore of San Antonio, who had been critically ill for several weeks had passed away. Mr. and Mrs. Fore and daughter Joan left immediately for San Antonio where last rites were held Monday. The Happy Herald, 28 Sept. 1944 FORE, Rev. T. N. Rev. T. N. Fore, 71, pioneer Baptist minister and father of T. L. Fore of this city, died at his home in San Antonio at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30. Rev. Fore had been in failing health for a number of years having suffered a paralytic stroke seven and one-half years ago, which left him speechless. Short funeral services were held in San Antonio at 1:30 Thursday after which the body was taken to Jacksonville, Texas where services were held Friday with interment in the Jacksonville cemetery. He was laid to rest with Masonic honors at the side of his wife and mother of his children who died in 1920. The deceased is survived by a second wife, Mrs. T. N. Fore of San Antonio, and three sons and one daughter, D. T. And J. D. Fore of San Antonio, T. L. Fore of Happy and Mrs. B. B. Tucker of Jacksonville. Rev. Fore spent practically all of his life in Texas. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. The Happy Herald, 7 Nov. 1935 FORMWAY, Era Englebert Funeral services for Era Englebert Formway, 67, a resident in and around Kress for the past 59 years were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Kress Methodist Church. Rev. Walter Driver, pastor, officiated. Interment was in the Kress Cemetery. Formway, brother of V. L. Formway of Plainview, died at 9:40 Saturday morning of a heart ailment. He became ill about 4 o'clock Friday morning. Formway was born March 16, 1885 in Missouri. He moved to Swisher County in 1891 with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. G. F. Formway who homesteaded on a section of land southeast of Kress. The home section is now owned by V. L. Formway and Roy F. Formway of Kress. Formway retired from farming fifteen years ago and moved to Kress where he and Mrs. Formway have since resided. She was BESSIE HAMILTON. The couple were married at Kress 38 years ago. They have one child, Mrs. S. A. Morgan, Kress. Three children are deceased. Other survivors are two brothers, Edgar and Cecil Formway, both of San Bernardino, Calif. Formway was a member of the Kress Methodist Church. The Tulia Herald, 13 Dec. 1951 FORMWAY, Verla Lee The funeral of Verla Lee Formway, 71, a resident of Plainview for more than 40 years, was conducted Monday afternoon. Formway died about 8 o'clock Saturday night at the Plainview Hospital and Clinic Foundation. He had been in poor health for some time. Born May 22, 1881 in Marble Hill, Missouri, Formway came to the Plains in his boyhood. His parents settled in the Whitfield community northwest of Plainview. He lived there for 15 years and moved to Kress where he resided for six years. He and ADDIS R SIMPSON were married Sept. 28,1904 at Silverton. The couple moved to Plainview in 1912. Survivors are Mrs. Formway, three brothers, Roy Formway of the Prairie View community and Edgar and Cecil Formway, both of California. Interment was in the Plainview cemetery. The Tulia Herald, 29 Jan. 1953 FORTNER, Alfred Funeral services were conducted Sept. 21 at the Happy Baptist Church for Alfred W. Fortner. Burial was in the Happy Cemetery. Fortner was born April 26, 1870 in Mississippi. He died Sept. 19 at his home 16 miles west of Happy. The services were conducted by G. A. Lagerond of Amarillo. Fortner was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Hereford. Survivors included his widow, ROXIE; five sons, James, Santa Ana, CA; Otho L. , Eliman, Colo.; Floyd W., Ben F. And Bernice D. , all of Happy; three daughters, Mrs. Veta Hale, Hawthorne, Colo., Mrs. Lela Campbell, Limon, Colo. And Mrs. Ed Money of Canyon. The Tulia Herald, 30 Sept. 1954 FORTNER, O. L. Funeral rites for O. L. Fortner, Jr. , 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Fortner of Kellerville, were held at 3:00 Thursday afternoon from the Happy Methodist Church conducted by Elder G. A. LaGrone of Amarillo. Young Fortner was injured while at play last summer at the home of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Fortner of the Arney community and never recovered from that injury. He had been in an Amarillo hospital for several weeks where he died at 9:15 Wednesday morning. Burial was in Happy Cemetery under the direction of Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Home in Amarillo. Surviving are his parents, a sister Veneta Jewel Fortner, and his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. A W. Fortner of Arney. The Happy Herald, 28 Oct. 1937 FOSTER, B. F. Funeral services were held at 4:00 Sunday afternoon for B. F. Foster, resident of the Whitfield community east of Kress, who died Saturday of injuries received when he was struck by lightning Thursday. The rites, held in the First Methodist Church in Plainview, were conducted by Rev. A. F. Shaw of Lockney. Rev. Shaw was assisted by Rev. E. A Reed of Plainview. Mr. Foster, 66, and for 31 years a resident of Swisher County, was active in community affairs. He was widely known as a farmer and cattleman as well as operator of a country store at Whitfield for 30 years. He was a former Postmaster and assisted in the founding and constructing of the Whitfield Methodist Church of which he was a charter member. Survivors include his wife, the following children: Floy, E. N., C. R, L. W., Elvin and Weldon Foster, all of the Whitfield community; Mrs. W. L. Bauth of Springdale, Ark. And Miss Vavra Foster of Whitfield; and five brothers. Burial services were held in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery where Mr. Foster was placed beside the grave of his daughter, Miss Mary Catherine Foster who drowned August 16, 1935. The Happy Herald, 18 July 1940 FOSTER, Miss Vara Geraldine The funeral of Miss Vara Geraldine foster, 53, a resident for a number of years in the Whitfield community near Kress was conducted at the Plainview First Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon. Rev. A. L. Shaw, Plainview Baptist minister and Rev. J. W. O'Neal pastor of the Whitfield Baptist church officiated. Miss Foster died Tuesday morning at an Amarillo hospital following a month's illness. She moved with her parents to the Whitfield community from Hill County in 1912. Foster, father of Mrs. Ed Sprowls of Happy, died at the family home in Austin, Tuesday at 6:20 a.m. He had been in failing health for two years although his condition only became critical Friday night when members of the family were notified of his serious illness. The two sons and three daughters reached his bedside before the end came. Austin had been his home for the past 21 years. A native Texan, Mr. Foster was born at Grapevine, Jan. 18, 1871. It was on Dec. 3, 1891 that he married MISS NANCY VALENTINE at Grapevine. Members of the family were looking forward to the celebration of the golden wedding anniversary of their parents this year. Mr. Foster was a member of the Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at Penelope, former home of the deceased, Wednesday afternoon at 2:00, with interment in Bell Springs Cemetery under the direction of Marshall & Marshall Funeral Home of Hillsboro. Rev. V. C. Kuester, pastor of the Penelope Baptist Church, was assisted in the service by Rev. C. S. Meirs, Itasca Baptist minister. Besides the wife, Mrs. W. J. Foster of Austin, two sons and three daughters also survive: Arch L. Foster of Bartlesville Okla.; Dr. D. R. Foster of Itasca; Mrs. R. L. Foote of Haskell; Mrs. Ed Sprowls of Happy; and Mrs. E. L. Watson of Bryan; eight grandchildren, one brother, O. W. Foster of Grapevine. The Happy Herald, 11 Sept. 1941 FOWLER, Mrs. Elizabeth Mrs. Elizabeth Fowler, 78, of Killeen, Texas, and mother of O. M. Fowler, local groceryman, passed away at her home, Dec. 25, at 12:30 p.m. She was the mother of 10 children. O. M. Fowler and eight others survive. Mr. Fowler and son, Merle, of Floyd County attended the funeral at Midlothia, Wednesday. They will return to Happy Friday. The Happy Herald, December 27, 1934 FOWLER, Mrs. Hattie Mae Last rites for Mrs. Hattie Mae Fowler, 59 years old, were held Saturday afternoon at the Central Church of Christ W P. Dennis officiated. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery under direction of Wallace Funeral Home. Mrs. Fowler died early Thursday morning at a Lubbock hospital. She was born Aug. 31, 1892 in Tennessee. She was married Jan. 11, 1911 to L. H. FOWLER They moved to Swisher County in 1926. Survivors include the husband; four sons, Ben, Luther H., Jack and John Thomas, all of Tulia; two daughters, Mrs. Virgie Trent of Tulia and Mrs. Bud Miller of Wichita Falls. The Tulia Herald, 10 April 1952 FOWLER, U. T. Mr. and Mrs. O. M. Fowler were called to Midlothian, Monday because of the sudden death of Mr. Fowler's brother, U. T. Fowler of that city. No details of his death were given in the message. Funeral services were held at Midlothian Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Jack Ray of Lubbock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fowler, who was visiting in the home of her parents here at the time they received word of the death of her uncle, has been in charge at the Fowler Grocery this week. The Happy Herald, 12 Feb. 1942 FOWLER, V. G. V. G. Fowler, 79, of Ennis, Texas, father of C. A. Fowler of this city, died Wednesday, Nov. 14 as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident. Mr. Fowler was at his father's bedside for several days before the end came. Funeral services were held at Ennis, Nov. 15, with interment in Ennis cemetery. The deceased is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Nelson Buck of Dallas, four sons, H. J. Fowler, Frankston; W. E. Fowler, Haskell; C. A. Fowler, Happy; and T. M. Fowler, Dallas. The Happy Herald, 22 Nov. 1934 FOWLER, Mrs. Wanda Ray and Janice Ann Word was received here last week of the tragic death in El Paso of Mrs. Wanda Ray Fowler and her 2 year old daughter, Janice Ann. Mrs. Fowler was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Hodges, formerly of Happy. Mrs. Fowler was to have received her divorce on May 9. Mrs. Fowler was the remaining child of Mr. and Mrs. Hodges; Junior Hodges died two years ago at the age of 22. He suffered a hemorrhage while driving his car. Billy Don, 4 years old, died in 1942. Another child died in infancy. Those from Tulia attending the funeral were Mrs. W. L. Hodges, grandmother of the slain woman, Mrs. Ada Strickland, an aunt, also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Clifton Corley of Littlefield and Mr. and Mrs. Van Pennington of Canyon. Fox, 60, prominent farmer, and resident of Randall County for the past 20 years who died Saturday morning following an extended illness, were held Sunday afternoon at the First Methodist Church in Canyon. Rev. R R Gilbreath of the Happy Methodist Church officiated, assisted by Rev. Sam Thomas of the Canyon Methodist Church. Burial was in the Canyon cemetery under direction of Griggs Thompson Funeral Home of Canyon . John Bucher Fox was born in Sevierville, Tenn. May 1, 1878, and came to Texas at the age of 16. He lived in Dallas County for 10 years, where he married MISS DORA ANN BRIMER Oct. 9, 1900. They later moved to Coleman County, where they lived 12 years before moving to Randall County, where they located near Happy 20 years ago. Mr. Fox is survived by his widow and 14 children, one grandchild, two brothers and three sisters. The children are: Earnest Fox of Buchanan, NM; Curtis, J. Reginald, Ebner, Milton, Weldon, Arthur, Warren, Leta, Estelle, Francis, Ruth and Mrs. Lucille Flippo, all of Happy. The brothers are O. C. And M. H. Fox of Knoxville, TN and the sisters are Mrs. W. C. Thomas of Oklahoma City; Mrs. Betha Shrader of Dandridge, TN and Mrs. Jerlee Chaney of Knoxville, TN. The Happy Herald, 5 Jan. 1939 FRANKLIN, Mrs. Emma A. Final rites for Mrs. Emma A Franklin of Happy were held Sunday afternoon at the Wayside Community Church. Rev. E. H. Martin, pastor of the McCullough Methodist Church, Pampa, officiated, assisted by David Wyatt, Methodist ministerial student. Burial was in Wayside Cemetery.Mrs. Franklin, 84 years old, died at her home in Happy early Saturday morning. She was born Oct 24,1867 in Mississippi, and was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. L. M. Yeager, Visalia, Calif., Mrs. Ruth Childers, South Plains, Mrs. Ada Smith, Muhno, Ore.; Mrs. Bonnie Studer, Happy; four sons, W. R. of Wayside, Grady of Olton, Sid of Tres Piedros, NM, Herb of Friona. Also surviving are 44 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchildren. The Tulia Herald, 10 April 1952 FREEMAN, Bill Henry Honor was paid to the memory of Corp. Bill Henry Freeman, 20, of Kress in rites Sunday afternoon at the Kress High School auditorium, Dean Brookshire, minister of the Plainview Ninth and Columbia Streets Church of Christ officiated. Corp. Freeman, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Freeman, Sr. of Kress, was killed in action in Korea on the morning of last April 16. The family received information that he was leading a nine man squad on outpost patrol when the Chinese attacked in battalion force. Corp. Freeman was struck in the neck by shrapnel and died almost instantly. He was born April 23, 1941 at Rush Springs, Okla. He came to Texas with his parents when he was five years of age. He graduated from the Kress High School in 1950 and enrolled soon thereafter at West Texas State in Canyon. He was a student there when he joined the U. S. Marines January 23, 1951. Corp. Freeman had been in Korea since. Besides the parents, survivors are four sisters, Miss Corine Freeman, Kress; Mrs. W. C. Downe, Morgan, KS; Mrs. J. C. Scruggs, Seymour, and Mrs. M. H. Wiggins, Edmondson; John Freeman, Elide, NM; Fred Freeman, Wannett, Okla.; Lee Freeman of the Halfway community west of Plainview and Eldridge Freeman, Edmondson. The Tulia Herald, 19 June 1952 FROST, W. L. W. L. Frost, 58, local groceryman for the past I I years and highly respected citizen of Happy, died at his home here early Sunday morning, May 16th after many months of intense suffering. Funeral services were held at 3:00 Monday afternoon from the Methodist Church with the pastor Rev. O. B. Herring officiating, assisted by Rev. H. W. Carter and Rev. J. W. Partin. Burial was in Happy cemetery under the direction of Griggs-Thompson funeral directors. William Leonard Frost was born Sept. 22, 1878 in the State of Georgia, moving with his parents to Texas at the age of 13, he made this state his home until his death, with the exception of a few years spent in Oklahoma. He lived at Vigo Park and Tulia for a number of years before coming to Happy on June 14, 1926. He came to Swisher County May 2, 1915. Mr. Frost married MISS EMMA BELT, Dec. 31, 1912. To this union two children were born, a son Jack and a daughter Wilma Ruth, the daughter having died in infancy. The deceased was a member of the Methodist Church. He died May 16, 1937 at the age of 58 years, 7 months and 24 days. Besides his wife and son Jack of Happy, he leaves one brother and two sisters; Mrs. J. E. Thaggard of Los Angeles, Calif; Mrs. L. R Daniels of Olustee, Okla.; and John R. Frost of Denver, Colo. and a host of friends. Other relatives here for the funeral were: Mrs. Nona Smiley of Oklahoma City; Mrs. C. M. Farmer of Corsicana; two nieces, Mrs. J. M. Keene and Mrs. Leach of Lubbock; J. L. Belt and son John R. Belt and wife from Lockney and Mr. and Mrs. John Sedlacek of Oklahoma City.
