The cemetery is on private property and permission must be obtained prior to entering the cemetery. It is marked by a Texas Historical Commission Marker erected in 1985 which reads: "INDIAN CREEK CEMETERY IN THE 1850s, PIONEER FAMILIES SETTLED HERE ALONG THE TARRANT-WISE COUNTY LINE AND STARTED THE ODESSA COMMUNITY, NOW KNOWN AS NEWARK. THE OLDEST MARKED GRAVE IN THIS COMMUNITY CEMETERY IS THAT OF JOHN HUDSON, INFANT SON OF JAMES J. (1824)-1914) AND NANCY HUDSON (1830-1911), WHO DIED SEPT. 19, 1856. THE HIGH CHILDHOOD MORTALITY RATE OF THE 19TH CENTURY IS REFLECTED BY THE W.D. HUDSON FAMILY, WHO BURIED THREE CHILDREN HERE FROM SEPT. TO DEC. 1862. INDIAN CREEK CEMETERY CONTAINS OVER 150 KNOWN GRAVES, BUT ONLY TWO BURIALS OCCURRED WITHIN THE PAST 50 YEARS." The inventory of Indian Creek Cemetery was carried out by the genealogy club of First Baptist Church of Saginaw, Texas, led by Dennis W. McDonald (dwm_nlm@msn.com). Our inventory netted sixty readable tombstones, while simple stones bearing no inscription or worn unreadable inscriptions mark many other graves. Great care has been taken to give as much detail of the stone's inscription as possible, complete with engraving mistakes and unique divisions of words. Margret E. Wife of D. A.
