All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** Mansfield News Mirror September 24, 1953 The citizens of Mansfield were deeply saddened this week at the passing of Elbert Doc Blissard, owner and operator of the Mansfield Cleaners. Mr. Blissard, 60, passed away at his home Tuesday, at 3:30 p.m., Sept. 22, 1953, after a six weeks illness. He was born in Cuthand, Red River County, Texas on Nov. 7, 1892, the son of W. L. Blissard and Belle Ringo. He lived in the Mansfield area most of his life. Besides being a tailor, he was also a deputy sheriff of Tarrant County for a number of years. Mr. Blissard was a familiar figure to the Mansfield residents – he always had a friendly hello and a smile for everyone he met. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by his wife, Estella Nadine Casstevens Blissard; one son, Harry D. Blissard of Mansfield; one daughter, Mrs. Marvin (Evelyn) Sibley of Arlington; one grandson, Randy Wayne Blissard; five brothers, Roy L. Blissard of Kennedale, Elmer Van Blissard of Baytown, Hollis Blissard of Houston, Raymond and Pat Blissard of San Diego, California; five sisters, Mrs. William Reeves (Gertrude) Ussery of Carbon; Mrs. John Anderson of Dallas; Mrs. Henry Joseph (Adele Flora) Dannenbaum of Houston; Mrs. F. E. Watson of Meridian; and Mrs. Norman Pyle of San Diego, California. Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m., Sept. 24, in the First Methodist Church, Mansfield, Reverend Robert Walker, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, and Reverend Leslie Welch, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated. Pallbearers were: Joe Thanisch, Raymond Nash, Johnnie Pat Day, Frank Mayfield, Arthur Curry, Masten Owens, Clyde Holland and Harry D. Nifong, Jr. Blessing Funeral Home and Rudolph Funeral Home had charge of funeral arrangements and burial was in the Mansfield Cemetery.
