All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** Mansfield News Mirror March 1997 Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Mae Callaway, 93, of Fort Worth, will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 4, 1997 at the graveside in Duncan Municipal Cemetery, Duncan, Oklahoma, Reverend Gene Jorgenson of Marlow, Okla. officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Blessing Funeral Home of Mansfield, Texas. Mrs. Callaway died at 5:40 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, 1997, in the Huguley Nursing Center of Fort Worth. She was born January 4, 1904, in Sallisaw, Oklahoma, the daughter of Thomas Harold and Effie Melinda Combs Tucker. She married Samuel Carlile Callaway, Aug. 17, 1930, in Duncan, Okla. Her husband preceded her in death on Nov. 22, 1978. Mrs. Callaway was a member of the First Baptist Church of Duncan, Duncan Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and the order of Eastern Star, Duncan, receiving her 50-year pin in 1991. She moved to Duncan in 1910, graduate in 1922 from Old Weeden Hospital School of Nursing, Duncan, and worked as a surgical nurse. Mrs. Callaway and husband moved to Kermit, Texas in 1938, where they reared their family, returning to Duncan in 1971. While in Kermit she was a charter member of the Kermit Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and organized the Candy Stripers of Kermit. Survivors: Daughter, Pat Woodard and husband, Paul of Fort Worth; son, Wayne K. Callaway and wife, Sandra Kay of Arlington; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and three nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Harold Tucker, June 18, 1924, and her mother, Effie Melinda Combs Tucker, March 31, 1942.
