Cartwright died on Friday, Oct. 6, 2006, at the age of 74. Graveside service: will be held at Houston National Cemetery on Veterans Memorial Drive. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Community Hospice of Texas, www.chot.org, or the American Lung Association. Dolores was born June 13, 1932, to Joseph and Mary Witte in St. Louis, Missouri. A great storyteller, she often share her childhood memories and adventures—from family moves around the Midwest to summer driving vacations around the country. Dolores was educated in all Catholic schools, culminating with a B.S. in mathematics from Fontbonne College in St. Louis in 1954. During a short career working at McDonnell Aircraft and IBM in Tulsa, Okla., she met and married James R. Cartwright. A dedicated wife, mother and homemaker, Dolores and James raised seven children together from Tulsa to Pittsburgh to Houston until the death of James in 1979. Without faltering, Dolores continued raising her children in Houston until all were college graduates. As the family continued to grow, Dolores was proud of her role as matriarch of a large, close, loving family. She moved to Mansfield to be near her grandchildren and took an active role in their lives. Dolores enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, old movies and playing games with family. Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Joseph; and her husband, James R. Cartwright. Her life will be celebrated through the continued sharing of her stories now and in the future. She will be greatly missed. Survivors: Her loving legacy will be carried on by her children, Ann Cartwright, Judy and Doug Moon, Carol and Phil Burnett, all of Arlington; John and Marla Cartwright of Denton; Tom and Gina Cartwright of Houston; Elizabeth and John Murphy of Tyler; and Linda and Todd Watson of College Station, as well as by her grandchildren: Michael and Bryan Moon, Jackson Burnett, Jordan and John Cartwright, Jack, Sam, Sidney and Nicholas Cartwright, Ryan and Mary Kate Murphy, and Allie, Becca and Zach Watson.
