Funeral: 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 23, at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, Mansfield, Texas, Reverend Randy Weeaks officiating. Burial: Mansfield Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, at Blessing Funeral Home. Pallbearers: Jesse Wayne Howard, Bob Ashcraft, Johnny Glass, Stacy Strawn, Dwight Hunter, and James Glass. Memorials: American Cancer Society or Mansfield Animal Shelter. Lavon was born July 23, 1919, in Mansfield, the daughter of Harbert and Mary Frances Crook Bowman. She married Hershal Truett Casstevens in Fort Worth on Oct. 23, 1940. She was a homemaker and a devoted and caring wife and mother. Lavon loved shopping, watching girls basketball games and doing things for others. She attended First Baptist Church of Mansfield from birth until 1995, when she joined Walnut Ridge Baptist Church. Lavon was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Hershal Truett Casstevens, on Jan. 22, 2005; her parents, Harbert and Mary Francis Bowman; brother, Elvis Bowman; and sister Leona Marshal. Survivors: Daughters, Shelia Carol and husband, Alvin Elton Betzel III; and Karen Elaine and husband, Richard K. Parker, all of Mansfield; granddaughter, Heather Strawn and husband, Stacy of Arlington; great grandsons, Landon and Cody Strawn; and numerous nieces and nephews.
