All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** Fort Worth Star-Telegram January 24, 2005 Mansfield – Hershal Truett Casstevens, 85, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at a Mansfield hospital. Funeral: 2 p.m., Tuesday at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, Reverend Randy Weeaks, officiated. Burial: Mansfield Cemetery Pallbearers: Johnny Glass, Billy Charles Roten, Wayne Wilshire, Ernest Prayer, James Glass, Jesse Wayne Howard, George Dollar, and Harold Dan Casstevens. Memorials: American Heart Association, or the Mansfield Animal Shelter. Truett was born July 28, 1919, in Lillian, the son of Van Roy and Ila Myrtle Fry Casstevens. He married Dorothy Lavon Bowman, Oct. 23, 1940, in Fort Worth, Texas... Truett loved the Lord, serving him as a member of First Baptist Church of Mansfield for over 50 years, where he was Sunday school superintendent, deacon, and chairman of the deacons. Truett had been a member of Walnut Ridge Baptist Church for 10 years. He also loved farming and raising cows. He was a lifetime farmer and had retired from the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Worth. Truett was preceded in death by his father, Van Roy Casstevens, Sept. 30, 1961; Ila Casstevens, Sept. 5, 1978; brother, Myrl Roy Casstevens, Feb. 4, 1983; and sister, Effie Mae McCormick, Jan. 28, 1996. Survivors: Wife of 64 years, Lavon Casstevens of Mansfield; daughters, Shelia Carol and husband, Alvin Elton Betzel of Mansfield; and Karen Elaine and husband, Richard K. Parker of Mansfield; granddaughter, Heather Strawn and husband, Stacy of Arlington; great-grandsons, Landon and Cody Strawn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
