He was surrounded by his adoring family who he loved so much. Memorial service was Saturday at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel. Burial: Private. Ray was born June 5, 1931, in Big Cane, Louisiana to Harvey and Elta Leger Dupre. Ray spent a childhood fishing on the bayou and hunting for birds and squirrels with his brothers and father. He was salutatorian of Palmetto High in a class of five members. Ray enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 17. When stationed at Carswell AFB in 1951, Ray met his wife, Shirley. Mitchell (Mike) and Elisa were born and a close-knit family was formed. Ray was stationed in Columbus, Miss.; Honolulu, Hawaii; and Charleston, S.C. He made all of these places an adventure for his family. Ray retired a master sergeant from the Air Force after 20 years and began his second career as a building inspector for the city of Arlington. His last assignment was as chief building inspector on the Ballpark at Arlington. His name is engraved on a plaque in the entry of the stadium. Upon retirement Ray was full time babysitter for his grandson, Connor. He changed diapers and lovingly took notes on all his activities. Ray was an avid antique dealer, coin and watch collector, and overall lover of junk. Ray loved his children and grandchildren more than any father known. He was a hands-on parent long before the term was invented. He left a legacy of honesty, integrity, and a strong work ethic. He would much rather be remembered for the depth of his love for his family than any career achievement, of which he had many. Through the pain and suffering, his outgoing personality could not be stopped. He treated all his caregivers with love and respect. The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice and Arbrook Plaza for their tender care for Mr. Dupre. Ray was preceded in death by parents and siblings, Wayne Dupre and Doralea Luneau. Survivors: Wife of 54 years, Shirley; son, Mike Dupre and wife, Sheryl, and grandson, Connor of Mansfield; daughter Elisa Cole and husband, Barry and granddaughter Kristen Cole of Mansfield; brothers Milbon Dupre and wife, Palmyre of Louisiana; and Harvey Dupre and wife, Betty of Tennessee; sister, Beulah and husband, Brady Ganson of Texas; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and scores of friends.
