All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** Mansfield News Mirror December 22, 2006 Marion Kelly Minnix, 83, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, after a long battle with cancer. Memorial service at a later date in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Mr. Minnix was the son of O. M. And Minnie Minnix and was born in Anson, Jones County, Texas on Nov. 10, 1923. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II on the USS Lexington until the Lex was sunk after heavy damage at the Battle of the Coral Sea on May 8, 1942. He then served until discharge in Sept. 1945 aboard the USS Bogue, a submarine-hunting aircraft carrier in the Atlantic theater of operations. Following the war, he attended Texas Tech College on the GI Bill and met and married Wilma Jean Benson in 1948. They were married for 58 years and had five children. Mr. Minnix retired from General Motors as an electrician who worked on the first robots installed in the Arlington plant. He was an avid amateur radio operator for over 40 years who obtained his extra-class license. He built his own home in Rendon with his excellent carpentry and electrical wiring skills. He enjoyed jazz music and played the piano and guitar as hobbies. He enjoyed studying the stock and commodity markets. Survivors: Loving wife, Wilma Jean Minnix of Fort Worth; children, Cheryl Kay and husband, Dennis L. Johnson; Marcia M. Johnson; Jeanetta Ann and husband Gordon W. Gregory, Jr.; Max Alan Minnix and Timothy Otto Minnix; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and friends.
