All rights reserved http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ****************************************************** Fort Worth Daily Democrat Fort Worth July 4, 1876 No. 1 Office South Side Square Drowned Last Sunday, George Shields of Dallas, left Fort Worth in his buggy, having with him his little son, about six or seven years of age. In crossing Village creek, which was swollen by the recent rains, the team was forced to swim, and was floated off down the creek. Mr. Shields endeavored to get out of the buggy with his son, but became entangled in some way, and in his struggles, lost his grasp on his boy and saw him sink to rise no more.
