Mayor John R. Shortridge, died Friday after three weeks of suffering. Mayor
Shortridge was one of Gainesville’s best men. He was serving his second term as
the chief executive and the advancement and up building of the city was his
highest aim. He was a prominent Odd Fellow and honored by several positions by
the state grand lodge. He leaves a wife, but no children.
