The centenarian was born in Newberry, S.C. on the 1st day of January, 1798. He died early this morning after spending the last forty-seven years of his life in Texas. He was the father of eight children and the oldest - a son, aged past 60, whose name is W. A. Taylor - came to Fort Worth to-day to secure a casket for the father. He said that his parent had been a wonderfully well preserved man for one so old as he. He gave as the reason for his father's longevity of life that he always took plenty of exercise, was regular in his habits and ever looked at the bright side of life. He declared that despondency had no place in his bosom and that as long as he was in good health, which he enjoyed the greater portion of his existence the shadow was never substituted for the ! ! sunshine. His wife died at a ripe age some years ago.
