Thompson, respectfully represents that he is a resident citizen of Taylor County, in the State of Texas..... Name: G.N. Thompson Age: Seventy Three years old April 1st 1899 Reside Taylor Co. How Long? Seven years. Post Office Abilene, Texas I have not applied for pension before. Occupation Farmer Physical condition: Rather bad I am unable by own labor to earn a support. Cause Rupture? Served Company G 6th Ala Cavalry. General Clanton Regiment. The last 3 years of the war. Never served Navy I have not received any pension or land certificate Real Estate Lots Nos seven (7) and eight (8) in Block No Ninety Three (93) in the city of Abilene Taylor Co. Texas. Value about $300.00 I have not sold any property within 2 years to the date hereof Had no to sell Yes, I am destitute of property and means of subsistence. Unable by my labor to earn a support. I have not transferred any property of value for the purpose of becoming a beneficiary under this law. I did not desert the Confederacy. I have come to Texas Sept 17, 1865. Signature G.N. Thompson 20th July 1899 D.G. Hill, County Judge, Taylor Co Texas Affadavit of Physician. Before D.G. Hill, Dr. J.M. Alexander under oath. Double inguinal hernia. Chronic Diarrhea of ten years duration and general disability of old age being 76 yrs old and very feeble and infirm. Signature: J.M. Alexander, 18th November 1899 County Commissioners: Nov 1899, Abilene. We found the applicant lawfully entitled to the pension provided for by the Confederate Pension. J.H. Bass, W.W. Harris, Ben F. Jones, A. Nisbett INTERROGATORIES Mrs. Mary Huggins [sp] who resides in Tarrant County Texas Mary A. Hudgins 52 years Ft Worth Texas I do know personally G.N. Thompson Known him all my life - first knew him in Alabama Know he enlisted in the Confederate army Enlisted in 1862 Bibb County Alabama about 3 years. Don't remember his company. I know he is unable to support himself. The above G.N. Thompson is the only G.N Thompson I know he is my father. I am his daughter. Sept 8, 1899. D.G. Hill Co Judge. Taylor County Answer to Questions: English Texas [Red River County] August 23. 97 Int 1st I have known Gideon N. Thompson for more than Fifty years. Knew him in 1863. Also 1865. And in fact ever since we came from Bibb Co Ala at the close of the Civil War together & landed in Red River Co 12 miles East from Clarksville September the 17th 1865. In april 1868 we together went to Washington Co Ark and resided in that state until January 1870. We came back to Texas and have resided in Texas ever since. G.N. Thompson was a Confederate soldier. He first enlisted in Capt Rudolphs Co. Hilliard's Legion Confederate Army in Alabama. During the time G.N. Thompson's Service in Capt Rudolphs Company. That Company was detached and served as General Tom Churchill's Escort through Kentucky during the time of Braxton Bragg and E. Kirby Smith's raid through Kentucky. In the spring of 1863 G.N. Thompson was discharged from service and came home. He having become thoroughly disabled for service on account of Rheumatic so much so that he could not feed himself. But in 1864, he became somewhat improved in health and made application to enlist with Co. G. Sixth Alabama Calvary, Capt W.T. Armstrong, Col Colvin, Lieut Col Lary, Major McWhorter. In this company, G.N. Thompson became so much disabled from Rheumatism that he made application to Gen. Jim Clanton and Col Colvin to be allowed the privilege of acting as Regimental Sutler and was granted the liberty of this service. G.N. Thompson made a faithful soldier to the last. [Note: Sutler supplied the men with merchandise] No, he has not received any pension for military service. No, he has not disposed of any property within the past 2 years. G.N. Thompson is (76) seventy six years old or probably seventy seven. G.N. Thompson has resided in Taylor County Texas since March 1895 G.N. Thompson is my father.
