All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** The Abilene Reporter News Abilene, Taylor County, Texas Tuesday, January 18, 1944 Local Pioneer Woman Dies Mrs. Wiley Turner, 68, pioneer Abilenian, died unexpectedly at the home of her daughter in Big Lake Monday. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Funeral for Mrs. Turner will be at the First Baptist church in Abilene this afternoon, with the pastor, Dr. M.A. Jenkens, officiating. Burial in local cemetery under direction of Laughter Funeral Home. Mrs. Turner was born 4 August 1875 at Houston, MO. Her maiden name was Mary Jane Dill. She moved to Abilene 52 years ago an dwas married to Wiley Turner in 1902. He died in 1939. The couple lived in Jones county for some time and also in the Wylie community. For the past 30 years, however, 830 Mulberry had been home for the Turners. She was a member of the First Baptist church and had been active in Baptist circles the past 50 years. Survivors: 3 daughters - Mrs. Earl T. Hays and Mary Edna Turner of Big Lake; Mrs. A.H. Gatlin of Abilen; son - Tim Turner of Dallas, formerly of Abilene and Sweetwater; two grandchildren.
