Campbell, 79, eye, ear, nose and throat specialist in Abilene 25 years, died at his home, 818 HIckory, this morning after an illness of several months. Funeral held at Laughter-North Memorial Chapel with Rev. Thomas Cole of Fort Worth, son-in-law of Dr. T.B. Cox of Abilene, officiating. Burial in the local cemetery. Dr. Campbell was born 24 October 1868 at Greenfield, MO, and when 17 years old came alone on horseback to Texas. He had begun working away fro mhome as a farm hand when 11 years old. On his first day in Texas he started grubbing timber at a dollar a day. At the age of 20, he was married to Mevia Poteet of Copeville. Later he spent three years in Barnes Medical College in St. Louis, MO, where he was graduated in 1899. He was engaged in general medical practice in West Texas until 1918 when he went to Tulane University for a year. He then came to Abilene where he has lived since and has limited ihs practice of treatment of the eye, ear, nose and throat. HEALTH FAILED At the beginning of World War II, he worked nine months for the Army Induction Board in examination of 30,000 men. His health began failing in November, 1942, and he had been an invalid since that time. A student of the Bible, Dr. Campbell possessed several religious books given him by Margaret Woodrow Wilson, a family friend, who was the daughter of the late President Woodrow Wilson. Survivors are the widow, 1 daughter - Elta Campbell Roberts, who lives at home. Pallbearers: Dr. R.H. Tull, Dr. T.B. Cox, Dr. J.W. Guinn, Dr. B.F. Rhodes, and John Pool, all of Abilene; Joe Hall of Stanton, E.C. Bell, Walton Morrison and Dr. Collins, all of Big Spring.
