All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************** The Abilene Reporter Newws Friday, October 15, 1948 Girand Rites Set Saturday Funeral for John Barton Girand, 80, resident of Abilene for 52 years, will be held Saturday at the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest. Dr. Willis P. Gerhart, rector, will officiate. Burial in the Cedar Hill Cemetery under the diretion of Laughter-North Funeral Home. Mr. Girand died Thursday at Hendrick Memorial Hospital following an illness of several months. Born 14 May 1868 in Austin, Texas, he was the son of the late Major and Mrs. G.W. Girand. Mr. Girand was reared in Graham and was married to Hannie Lamar. The couple moved to Abilene 52 years ago. For a numbe of years Mr. Girand was U.S. Marshal in Abilene and was later a rural carrier 27 years. He had also been employed as a bookkeeper for R.A. Bible Implement Co. The Girand home was at 309 Sayles. Survivors: his widow; 1 son - John B. Girand, Jr., 317 Sayles; 1 daughter - Mrs. E.W. Giles of Houston; 3 brothers - Jim Girand of Phoenix, AZ; W.D. Girand of Lubbock; A.M. Girand of San Antonio; 1 sister - Mrs. T.B. Griffith of Dallas.
