Brooks, 87, a Taylor county residence since 1879 will be held at the Laughter Funeral Home this afternoon. The pioneer citizen died Tuesday after an illness of three days. Dr. M.A. Jenkens, pastor of the First Baptist church will officiate at the funeral today with burial in the local cemetery beside his wife who died in September 1940. Pallbearers: Johnny Wise, Buford Ellis, Will W. Watson, D.M. Oldham, P.H. Watkins, M.E. Gilliland. Lee W. Brooks, native of Washington county, came to Buffalo Gap in 1879. In 1881, he went back home and married Georgia Anna Ballard in Lavaca County on 28 January 1881. In November 1882, they came to Abilene and resided there continuous since. The longtime resident was a pioneer freighter having made the Abilene-San Angelo run in 1885. He was born 23 November 1854. Surviving are five sons: Ollie and Jim of Abilene; Dick of Eastland; Claude of Philadelphia; Leonard of Los Angeles and two brothers at Halletsville. The Brooks family has resided at 2141 North Third since 1918. Previously, the family home was at 402 Palm.
