All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm **************************************************************************** The Abilene Reporter News Friday, June 4, 1982 William McKnight Lewis, 83, of 2234 Old Orchard road, a longtime Abilene insurance agent died Thursday at Hendrick Medical Center after a brief illness. Services will be at Episcopal church of the Heavenly Rest. Rev. James Folts, rector, will officiate, assisted by Rev. E.P. Dentner, retired rector. Burial in Elmwood Memorial Park directed by Elliott-Hamil funeral home. Born 22 May 1899 in Platte County, Missouri, he graduated from Northeast High school in Kansas City, Missouri, he graduated from Northeast High school in Kansas City, Missouri in 1917 and attended the University of Southern California. His family traces its ancestry in the United States to 1635, when ancestors founded Warner-Hall Plantation in Virginia. He moved to Houston in 1929 as a representative of General American Life Insurance co. He moved to Abilene in 1942 and had been an Aetna Life and Casualty Co., agent until his death. He married Nena Kate Ramsey 26 August 1936 in Denton. He was a member of Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, where he had been on the vestry. He had been church secretary and junior warden. He served on the finance committee when the present church building was built and was a senior lay reader at the church. A brother, Robert and a sister, Elizabeth Lewis, preceded him in death. Survivors: his wife, nieces and nephews.
