Lowry, pioneer newspaper man and resident of Abilene, who died at his home Saturday, will be held from the Laughter funeral chapel Monday. Rev. W.M. Pearce, pastor of the First Methodist church, will conduct the services and the Masonic lodge will have charge of the burial. Col. Lowry established the Taylor County News in Abilene during the first years of AbileneÕs existence, and operated this paper for several years. He contributed to McMurry college a large collection of newspaper clippings and scrap book material which he had spent his later years in assembling. Survived by seven children. James A. Lowry funeral was at Laughter Funeral chapel with William Pearce officiating. He died 19 September 1925 and was born 4 September 1841 and died at the age of 84 years, 14 days. His father was John Lowry born in Alabama and his mother was Beckie Phelps, born in Alabama. James A. Lowry was interred in the Masonic cemetery. His wife was Elizabeth Ann Lowry. She was born 6 August 1841 and died 27 November 1935 at her home. Mrs. Lowry was the daughter of Claybourne Palmer. She was buried beside her husband in the Masonic cemetery.
