Minter, 63, partner of MinterŐs, AbileneŐs oldest merchandising department, died Saturday in Hendricks Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral will be in the Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest with the Rev. E.P. Dentzer, record, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Memorial Park under the direction of ElliottŐs Funeral home. Mr. Minter was born in Abilene 25 January 1908, the son of the late Mr. And Mrs. W.A. Minter, Jr. Both his parents arrived in Abilene in 1881, the year town lots were sold. They were married in 1900, the same year Mr. Minter founded MinterŐs Dry Goods co. Jack MinterŐs first employment was with his fatherŐs firm while he was still a school boy. His first job was running a button covering machine. He graduated from Abilene High school in 1925 and from Virginia Military Institute in 1929 with a bachelor of Arts degree. Soon after graduating from VMI, he returned to Abilene and resumed work with his fatherŐs firm. He was made a partner in the firm following his fatherŐs death in 1935. He and a brother, Will D. Minter, became partners with George L. Minter, Sr., a cousin of their fatherŐs who had been with the firm since it was founded in 1900. George Minter, Jr. later became a partner with Will and Jack Minter. Mr. Minter served five years during World War 2 entering the service at first lieutenant in 1940 when the 112th Cavalry was mobilized here and sent to Fort Bliss. He served overseas over three years and was separated from the service in 1946 as a lieutenant colonel. He had served on the board of directors of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce and West Central Texas Municipal Water District. He was a member of the Abilene Rotary Club and the First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Minter was named ŇÓBoss of the YearÓ in 1963 by the Abilene Credit WomenŐs Breakfast Club. He was a city commissioner from 1953 to 1955, and was mayor pro tem from April 1954 to April 1955. He married the former Dorothy McKelvy of Albany. The family home is at 1411 Tanglewood. Survivors: his wife, Dorothy; 1 niece: Mrs. Marc Levanthol of LaVern, CA; brother Đ W.D. Minter of 1201 Sylvan.
